I normally use asunder (in linux mint) for ripping cds, but sometime this year (2020) it stopped retrieving the cd name, track and artist info.
I found that the databases used (CDDB and freedb) no longer worked.
It appears that CDDB has gone subscription only, and freedb has closed completely.
This is not good, but fortunately, for the moment, there is another database that still works. This means changing the settings in asunder. (And probably other things like ripperx).
Until the developer issues an update with new defaults, we can change the settings manually.
To do this, go into preferences/ advanced (or whatever in similar programs), and change the following:-
1. change server to "gnudb.gnudb.org"
2. change the port to "80"
3. tick the box "use HTTP proxy"
4. enter "proxy.gnudb.org" into the address box
5. click "OK"
This should now work.
We'll see how long this one works!
